GLTA Devil Aces Cup: 30 June – 2. July 2023

Devil Aces Cup

We are expecting numerous players from many countries this year from 30 June to 2 July in Berlin at the GLTA Devils Aces Cup. The gay and lesbian tennis event will take place for the seventh time at the Treptower Teufel Tennis Club. From 2012 to 2021, the tournament was held under the name CheckPoint Open, now it has its own new name “GLTA Devils Aces Cup”.

The tournament is part of a worldwide grassroots sports tour organized by the GLTA (Gay and Lesbian Tennis Alliance). All interested players can take part, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. The tour stands for tolerance and openness to the world and is directed against any kind of discrimination.

More than 10,000 players worldwide participate in the international competition series. Every year, dozens of tournaments are held on all continents as part of the GLTA. The athletes are divided into performance classes. The highest level is the Open class. The A to D levels follow below. All players receive points at the competitions and are listed in a world ranking list that is updated weekly. The best eight players of the year determine their world champion at the Masters Tournament in their respective performance classes.

Background on the GLTA Series

The GLTA was founded in the early 1990s by gay tennis players in the USA. After the first tournament in Amsterdam, the tour was expanded to Europe. There are now 70 tournaments around the world. In Germany, competitions are also held in Nuremberg, Düsseldorf, Munich, Cologne, and Frankfurt. The GLTA is an official member of the USTA, a subsidiary of the ITF.

The tournament series is not only a sports event but also a large social network. Many players know each other from the tour and have become friends over the years. The atmosphere at the events is always familiar and friendly.
